Powerful wind storm does damage

Jun 21, 2017 | 6:41 AM

Wild weather wreaked havoc in Rocky Mountain House and most of Central Alberta on the evening of Tuesday, June 20.

According to Fire Chief Steve Debienne for Clearwater Regional Fire and Rescue Services, crews responded to 17 calls during the  80-kilometre per hour wind storm.

Many of the calls were for downed power lines and for fallen trees. They were also dispatched to a business in the industrial area where the roof had blown off with a natural gas leak, and an incident where a power line came in contact with an occupied motor vehicle.

Some people in the region were even without power overnight as some areas require significant repairs.

Fortis Alberta is estimating power to will be returned to the region between 4pm and 5pm.
