Lagoon improvement staging plan underway

Jun 21, 2017 | 8:47 AM

A review and staging plan of the Rocky Mountain House lagoon is underway and will have a final report finished in July.

Studies completed in October of 2016 identified that two parameters of the new Federal Wastewater System Effluent Regulations are occasionally exceeded.

Director of engineering and operations Rod Fraser says that at the moment, key areas of treatment within the Lagoon are being reviewed by an engineering firm and they have suggested a way to reduce the pH of the town’s lagoon with viable pH solutions to address the immediate concern of meeting Federal regulations.

“The testing looks promising, but we will know for sure in July” said Fraser at the town’s P3 meeting, June 13.

Following the report, work will begin towards putting the recommended solutions in place to meet the regulations and if they meet the requirements a funding strategy will be included in the final report.

“The last two tests have met regulations, but it needs to be consistent” he says.

The Lagoon Staging Report will include short-medium-and long-term strategies, upgrading and operating costs to meet the federal requirements now and into the future.

The report is scheduled to be presented to Town Council on July 11th with the final report being submitted July 21st.
