ASDC Female Athlete of the Month: Tyla Lee

The Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) is pleased to announce their Athlete of the Month for June 2017 is Tyla Lee. 

A 17-year-old Red Deer resident and Grade 12 student and recent graduate of Notre Dame High School in Red Deer, Lee is a competitive softball athlete. 

Tyla is currently a shortstop (with some 3rd base duties) with the Lloydminster Liners 18U “A” team, and competes with her team in the Girls Prairie Softball League (GPLS). 

Lee played most of her softball with the Red Deer Rage where she has been a GPLS All-Star catcher/shortstop each year she has played. 

Additionally, Tyla captured a Provincial Championship with the Rage 16U ‘A’ team for two consecutive years and a 3rd consecutive year capturing an 18U Provincial Championship with the Liners last season. Here is Tyla’s current hitting line the 2017 season:

Tyla was recently named to Alberta’s 2017 Jeux Canada Games Softball Team and will compete in Winnipeg this summer, with her teammate and sister Jade Lee.  At 17 years of age Tyla will be the youngest member of Team Alberta at the Canada Games competition (Canada Games is 21U competition).

Tyla will attend school and play softball with the Reivers at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa this fall.  Tyla follows her sister Jade to Iowa Western where Jade was named a two-time Academic All-Region XI 1st Team student-athlete, two-time All-Region First Team, Region XI Defensive Player of the Year and NFCA/NJCAA 3rd Team All-American in Softball.

With Tyla’s strong work ethic, her undeniable athletic abilities and her training experiences with ASDC-Central she will surely continue to grow and develop in her sporting career!  We at ASDC-Central wish Tyla much success at Canada Games and at college in the coming year!
