Local man convicted of assaulting Mounties in 2015 in Eckville

A Red Deer man has been found guilty of assaulting two Mounties in an incident that took place more than two years ago.

Two RCMP officers were called to a disturbance at the Eckville Post office on the afternoon of February 19, 2015.

When they arrived to arrest the man causing the disturbance he choked one of the officers and punched the other in the head. The man was eventually arrested after additional officers were called to the scene.

Trial took place in Red Deer court on Thursday for 53-year-old Leon Williams.

Williams was found guilty on several counts including assaulting a peace officer (x2), mischief and resisting arrest.
