Truck owner seriously hurt trying to save vehicle from being stolen

WETASKIWIN- A 17-year-old from Maskwacis faces numerous charges after an incident where the owner of a pickup was seriously injured trying to stop his vehicle from being stolen on Saturday afternoon in Wetaskiwin.

He was flown to Edmonton by STARS in critical condition.

The owner was in the bed of the truck when the driver struck two other vehicles and he was tossed out of the back of the pickup.

The suspect fled on foot but was arrested shortly after.

The teen, who can't be named due to his age, faces 17 charges including criminal negligence causing bodily harm, impaired and dangerous driving and theft of a vehicle.

He makes his first court appearance on Thursday.
