New interim Town CAO tackles first week

The Town of Rocky Mountain House has a new face taking on the role of Interim Chief Administrative Officer.

Corinne Newman is temporarily replacing Todd Becker after he resigned to take the job as CAO for the Town of Innisfail earlier this month, Newman officially started on August 7.

“It’s been extremely busy but also an enjoyable one week” she said at this week’s regular town council meeting.

Before starting her term here in Rocky, she began her career in Hinton where she worked and lived there for 25 years before taking on the role of CAO for the Town of Blackfalds from 2006 to early 2014. Newman is now retired and lives in Red Deer.

Currently, the Town of Rocky Mountain House is in the process of selecting a recruitment company to help them find a new full-time CAO.

“We will make a decision next week on the company that will do the recruitment service for the town and hopefully our timelines are ambitious and we hope to have somebody in place by the middle of November” said Newman. “I said that I could stay until December, 15.”

Meanwhile, Newman adds that she is looking forward to her time here and taking on different projects, especially since the next Municipal Election takes place during her term on October 16.

“I’m preparing for a change in council, there usually is, and with that is of course the orientation for a new council as this is always a learning curve for new councillors” Newman said. “There are big roles and responsibilities that they have to adhere to, never mind learning the organization from top to bottom, budget, where things are, what they are suppose to be doing, appointments to committees so, that is a big job in October to have the election and get everybody up to speed.”
