July building permit numbers up over last year but values down

Aug 18, 2017 | 6:31 AM

RED DEER- The number of building permits issued last month exceeds the number from July of last year, but permit values were lower.

There were 132 total permits issued last month, compared to 100 in July 2016, but the value was pegged at $9.2 million last month compared to $91.3 in July 2016.

Most of the value was last year’s permit for the $76.5 million Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Year-to-date totals for residential and industrial permits are keeping pace with the January to July period in 2016.

Notable construction projects include a permit valued at $1.4 million for an entrance chamber for the North Red Deer Regional Wastewater Services Commission to connect a new sewer line to The City of Red Deer’s Waste Water Treatment Plant, a new five bay industrial warehouse valued at $1.2 million, and a permit valued at $375,000 for a new Freshii restaurant.

Monthly permit statistics are available on The City’s website at: Red Deer Open Data Catalogue
