Green carts now rolling out to all Red Deer homes

Feb 22, 2018 | 3:56 PM

More than 26,000 green carts have begun to roll out to homes across Red Deer.

That process will continue until the end of March.

“Green Carts are being delivered to all homes that currently receive individual garbage and blue box pickup,” The City explains. “The Green Carts come with a Kitchen Container and an information booklet to help residents get acquainted with their new Cart. City of Red Deer staff will also be nearby when Green Carts are dropped off, and are ready to help answer questions you may have about your new Cart and the new program.”

Organics, such as yard waste, all food and kitchen scraps, and pet waste can be put into green carts for year-round, regular pick-up and composting.

Collection begins the week of April 9 and residents will use the same location they’d normally use for regular garbage pick-up.

The City has aligned the launch of green carts with the week yard waste collection would have begun, ensuring households can get used to the Green Cart as they do their spring yard clean up.

Blue Carts for recycling and Black Carts for regular garbage collection will go out to all homes a year from now.
