County of Stettler lauded for its money management

The County of Stettler is getting the ‘thumbs-up’ for its money management last year.

County officials say they have once again received a clean management letter from accounting firm Gitzel & Company Chartered Professional Accounts for their audited 2017 Financial Statements. Those statements were presented to Council recently and show County reserves sitting much higher than anticipated.

“We are very pleased to receive another good bill of health for our financial statements and systems at the County of Stettler,” says Chief Administrative Officer Yvette Cassidy in a press release. “The big story here is that while we predicted our reserves to be sitting at $3.2 million after using them to build our new Public Works Facility, they are actually as of now, sitting just shy of $6.5 million.”

County officials say the new Public Works Facility was completed and has been operational since June 2017 but reserves were replenished more quickly than anticipated due to frugal money management and fiscally responsible moves by each department.
