Red Deer Rebels, central Albertans make NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings for 2024

A few Red Deer Rebels and two other local products have been named to NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings for 2024.

They include skaters (North American rankings):

40. Ollie Josephson — Victoria, B.C. – Red Deer Rebels centre (previously named to Players to Watch list in October 2023)

146. Rhys Pederson — Stettler, AB – Edmonton Oil Kings defenseman (previously named to Players to Watch list in October 2023)

187. Samuel Drancak — Strakonice, Czechia – Red Deer Rebels centre (previously named to Players to Watch list in October 2023)

9. Chase Wutzke — Calgary, AB – Red Deer Rebels

Per the WHL: Seven WHL skaters are listed within the top 20 North American skaters, including Lindstrom, Berkly Catton (Spokane Chiefs), Tij Iginla (Kelowna Rockets), Carter Yakemchuk (Calgary Hitmen), Terik Parascak (Prince George Cougars), Julius Miettinen (Everett Silvertips) and Ryder Ritchie (Prince Albert Raiders).

All 22 WHL clubs are represented in the Final Rankings. The Calgary Hitmen lead the way with five ranked players, while the Edmonton Oil Kings, Everett Silvertips, Medicine Hat Tigers and Spokane Chiefs have four players ranked. Five more teams, the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Prince George Cougars, Red Deer Rebels, Regina Pats and Victoria Royals have three ranked players each.

The 57 WHLers recognized are tied with the Ontario Hockey League for the most listed players in the Canadian Hockey League.

The 2024 NHL Draft is slated for June 28-29 in Las Vegas.
