Canada Games torch passes through Lethbridge on its way to Red Deer

LETHBRIDGE – The MNP Canada Games Roly McLenahan Torch made a stop in Lethbridge on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as part of the official torch relay ahead of the 2019 Canada Winter Games taking place in Red Deer in February.

The MNP Canada Games Torch Relay arrived in Grande Prairie Saturday as part of the celebration ahead of the 2019 Canada Games in Red Deer.

CEO of the 2019 Canada Winter Games Scott Robinson said it's exciting that their games were the first to have a National torch relay.

Dec. 15 - Calgary Inferno captain Rebecca Johnston and Toronto Furies captain Natalie Spooner are joined at centre ice by Val Gill, minor hockey coach and captain of Team Alberta at the 1991 Canada Winter Games, as well as Nora Penner, member of the Golden Knights Timbits pond hockey team. Johnston and Spooner, both Canada Games alumni, presented the other pair with a donation for the 2019 Games Mitts for Many project.

The legacy of the 2019 Canada Winter Games and Games prior was on full display this past weekend during a Canadian Women's Hockey League matchup between the Calgary Inferno and Toronto Furies.
