2A transit service offering free ridership for first month

Ridership will be free for the first month on 2A South Regional Transit.

The daily bus service begins January 14, and connects the communities of Springbrook, Innisfail, and Penhold, to Red Deer Transit services.

The bus service runs from Monday to Friday and does not run on weekends or statutory holidays.

Starting February 11, fares will be priced at $5.00 per one way trip including one transfer upon arrival in Red Deer.

“We are thrilled to see 2A South Regional Transit begin service. This provides an important transportation link for those people living in the area who do not have access to a vehicle or simply would rather let someone else do the driving,” says Red Deer County Community Services Manager Jo-Ann Symington.

The service – a collaborative effort between the municipalities and the Government of Alberta – is a two year pilot project, which will gauge interest in transit service for the area. By connecting with Red Deer Transit at the Bower Mall bus stop, residents from the three communities can connect with multiple Red Deer Transit routes using one main connection.

An online schedule is now available for 2A South Regional Transit at the Red Deer Transit section of the City of Red Deer website. It can also be found on each respective municipality website. Paper copies will also be available at each of the municipal offices and select other locations in the region.
