Canadian cyclist Mike Woods makes late charge at Santos Tour Down Under

ADELAIDE, Australia — Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan won Stage 3 of the Santos Tour Down Under on Thursday, surviving a late attack by Canadian Mike Woods.

The 32-year-old from Ottawa, riding for the EF Education First Pro Cycling team, finished 18th on the 146.2-kilometre stage from Lobethal to Uraidla.

Stage 2 winner Patrick Bevin of New Zealand retained the overall lead, one second ahead of Sagan. Woods moved up to 11th in the overall standings, 15 seconds behind the leader.

The six-stage race wraps up Sunday. Woods finished fifth overall in the 2016 race.
