Drayton Valley Weekly RCMP Report: Jan. 17 – Jan. 24

January 17

8:22 am – Drayton Valley, Home Away Inn – Theft from vehicle – Sometime during the night of January 15 a suspect in a light coloured single cab pickup truck backed up to a Summit Company truck, a person exited and cut off the Diesel Particulate Filter. 

3:15 pm – Drayton Valley – Fraud – Complainant reporting that they provided remote access to an individual claiming to be from windows who advised that their licence had not been paid for.  Suspects were able to obtain SIN and name from PC.  Complainant contacted Equifax/Transunion, no funds had been taken.  Phone number came back to Turks & Cacos.

6:27 pm – Parkland County – Assist Fire Department – Fire department advised that they had been called to a chimney fire.  Members attended, everyone had exited the residence. 

January 18

7:42 am – Drayton Valley, 47 Avenue – Assistance – Member called to assist female whose child had locked her out of the house.  Female had taken the garbage out and child had locked the door behind her.  Member attended and assisted with opening the door.  Everyone was fine.

10:23 am – Drayton Valley, 54 Street – Damage to vehicle  – Safety Summit reporting damage to a MTC Truck.  The vehicle had been parked in the fenced yard.  It appeared that someone attempted to pry the back door of the unit.  No access gained.

1:17 pm – Drayton Valley, Wal Mart – Shoplifting – Report of a male who took several items, proceeded to the bathroom where they flushed the packaging down the toilet.  Paid for a couple of items then left.

3:00 pm – Drayton Valley – Fraud – Complainant attended detachment to report 3 fraudulent cheques had been written on their account totalling $4300.00.  Matter is still under investigation.

8:08 pm – Drayton Valley, 48 Street – theft – Complainant reporting their landlord entered their suite and stole some items.  Member contacted the individuals involved.  No evidence to proceed.

9:52 pm – Drayton Valley, 47 Avenue – Disturbance – Members were called to a disturbance in which a male kicked in a door.  A lot of yelling and shouting.  Members attended, the suspect had already left.  Members spoke with the suspect and advised them to stay away as complainant did not wish any charges.

After a lengthy investigation, Drayton Valley RCMP have arrested and charged 43 year old Dean Mitchell Black for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, Criminal Negligence causing death, 2 counts of Fail to comply with Condition of Undertaking or Recognizance and 4 counts of Disobeying a court order.  These charges stem from a motor vehicle Collision which occurred on or about August 24th, 2017 which claimed the life of a 36 year old female passenger. 

January 19

12:51 am – Drayton Valley, 7-11 – Disturbance – Members were called to the 7-11 for a male who was causing a disturbance and requesting police attendance.  Members attended and located an intoxicated male who was talking about getting into a fight at the bar.  Members provided a courtesy ride to the males hotel.  No evidence of any fight.

1:24 am – Drayton Valley, 45 Avenue – Noise complaint – Report of a loud party.  Music and lots of people outside.  Members attended and the party ended.

2:24 am – Drayton Valley, 45 Street – Theft – Complainant advises that a male just stole their schitzu dog.  Dog was located later on. 

12:08 pm – Drayton Valley, Draytons Restaurant – Theft of truck – complainant reporting they parked their truck in front of Drayton’s Restaurant and left it over night.  When they returned, the vehicle was gone.  Vehicle was later recovered by Edmonton Police Service.

1:56 pm – Drayton Valley, The Source – Theft – complainant reporting theft of lap top.  Matter still under investigation.

3:57 PM – Brazeau County – Abandoned vehicle – Complainant reporting a 5th wheel Industrial trailer is parked on the road. 

4:13 pm – Brazeau County – Theft – Complainant reporting theft of two RV batteries and a bundle of rags from a lease site.  Door to building had been opened. 

5:41 pm – Brazeau County, HWY 621, RR 92 – Theft from mail – Report of damage to the mail boxes.  Members attended and one of the boxes had been entered.  Tool used to pry open the mail box.  Canada Post advised. 

6:06 pm – Drayton Valley, B&B Liquor – Theft – Complainant advised that a male and female entered the store.  The male stole 2 bottles of vodka and left in a black Toyota sedan.  Four occupants in vehicle.  Licence plate on vehicle had been reported stolen from Rocky Mountain House a few days prior. 

January 20

2:08 am – Drayton Valley, 40 Street – Theft from vehicle – Complainant reporting 2 males in black hoodies were breaking into vehicles.  Members attended, suspect vehicle located  and fled towards Rocky Mountain House.  Light bar stolen.

12:46 pm – Brazeau County, Hwy 620, RR 82 – Abandoned vehicle – Report of a black dodge car on the side of the highway.  Member attended and located the vehicle.  Vehicle towed.

1:39 pm – Drayton Valley, 48 Avenue – Dispute – Dispute between two parents over the custody of their son.  Members mediated the issue

2:39 pm – Yellowhead County, Elk River Road  – Injury Collision – Members called to assist EMS and fire with a snowmobile accident with injuries.  Members attended, female was transported by STARS to Edmonton with undetermined injuries.

January 21

8:40 am – Drayton Valley, Library – Suspicious email – Complainant reporting receiving a suspicious email.  Several emails have been received by various agencies regarding a male and suspicious activity.  This is a fraudulent email in which there are no threats.

10:38 am – Drayton Valley, Performance Wireline – Theft from vehicle – Complainant reporting theft of a light bar from a 2014 Ford truck.  Push bar was damaged and wiring harness cut.

10:53 am – Drayton Valley, Wal Mart Parking Lot – Hit and Run – Complainant reports their Green 2000 Ford F150 was hit while in the Wal Mart parking lot.  Damage to rear passenger side and rear.

11:40 am – Lodgepole – Theft – Complainant reporting theft from CNR well site.  Copper grounding cable cooler tarp and miscellaneous hand tolls were stolen.  Approximate loss is $3500

1:05 pm – Brazeau County – Erratic Driver – Complaint received of an erratic driver.  Driver took out 3 signs between the Dairy Queen and the Esso.  Members patrolled area and vehicle located.  Driver not intoxicated.  Had hit the signs to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

1:19 pm – Brazeau County – Theft – Complainant reports theft of Compressor Trailer from lease site.  Entry gained by cutting the chain on the gate and driving in.  Tracks indicate 2 suspects.  Trailer is a flat deck trailer containing a compressor, controls and air bottles.

January 22

7:29 am – Drayton Valley, Greenwood Trailer Court – Suspicious persons – Report of a male wearing a black jacket and a female carrying a large backpack walking around.  They appear to be checking out trailers.  Member attended and located persons of interest.  Verified that they were at a trailer confirmed to be a friends. 

8:25 am – Drayton Valley, 44 Avenue – Disturbance – Complainant reports a disturbance between 2:00 am and 7:00 am.  Couple next door was arguing.  Members attended and spoke with all parties.  Loud argument no physical violence.  Requested complainant to call when occurring. 

10:43 am – Brazeau county – Theft – Complainant reporting that someone entered the lease site, walked throughout the premises and opened the doors to the buildings.  Stolen was a five gallon pail of gear oil

1:57 pm – Drayton Valley – Fraud – Complainant reporting fraudulent use of credit card.  Visa card was lost or stolen, Unusual activity on card over $400.  Card has been cancelled

 4:15 pm – Drayton Valley, 50 Avenue – Theft from truck – Complainant reports theft from work truck that was parked in the back alley.  Two Element Fuel cards and a site fuel key was stolen.

4:40 am – Drayton Valley, Jocelyn’s Independent Grocery – Unwanted female – Report of an unwanted female, would like her removed.  Member attended and provided a courtesy ride.  Female warned not to return.

January 23

6:02 am – Drayton Valley, 50 Street – Suspicious person – Complainant reports a black half ton truck is parked in the parking lot with lights on.  People pulling up and leaving.  Members attended, male located in vehicle.  Male arrested on outstanding warrant.

6:31 am – Drayton Valley, 46 Street – Theft from vehicle – Complainant reports the window on their white Ford F350 was broken.  Work tools stolen. 

1:52 pm – Drayton Valley, 50 Avenue – Unwanted person – Report received of unwanted persons.  Members attended and arrested one male on outstanding warrant.

January 24

3:14 am – Drayton Valley, 7-11 – Suspicious vehicle – Report of a black Avalanche with tinted windows and a male wearing a red hoody and a ball cap.  Vehicle had been in the complainants cul de sac, then took off.  Vehicle not located
