A 22-year-old man from the Sunchild First Nation is in custody following a police chase on Friday.

On Mar.15, Rocky Mountain House RCMP were patrolling the O’Chiese First Nation and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

During an attempt to pull it over, Mounties say the vehicle fled from officers and eventually became stuck in a ditch.

Police say two males ran from the vehicle but after a lengthy foot chase, were able to arrest both men.

RCMP say a search of the male driver and the subsequent vehicle resulted in police locating methamphetamine, a machete style weapon and a large amount of Canadian currency.

The driver faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.00, flight from police, breach of recognizance and Traffic Safety Act counts of driving without a licence, driving without motor vehicle insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Mounties say the passenger, a 25-year-old man was released on a promise to appear.
