Calkins: Trudeau’s Summer of Failure
After months and months of failing to deliver on everything from trade to taxes to pipelines, Justin Trudeau had an opportunity this summer to finally get the big issues right. But instead of a fresh start, Justin Trudeau had a disastrous summer and continued to fail on the issues most important to Canadians. This summer, Justin Trudeau failed Canadians on:
Economy – Trudeau’s economic policies have failed to create the growth and opportunity Canada needs to compete with the world. This summer, Canadians learned his failure to compete could cost Canada more than 600,000 jobs. His stubborn refusal to acknowledge Canada’s tax and regulatory disadvantages has seen billions of dollars in investment leave the country – taking jobs and opportunity with it.
Carbon Tax – Justin Trudeau cut a special deal with big polluters to reduce their carbon tax rate while keeping it the same for small businesses and families. Alberta and PEI both pulled out of Trudeau’s national carbon tax. His carbon tax coalition is failing.
Ethics – Yet another Liberal Minister was found guilty of breaking conflict of interest laws when he intervened on the granting of licenses for the clam fishery. Justin Trudeau failed to discipline this Minister.
